For all who have wanted to see the backhoe cake, here it - finally - is! I got the idea from a Family Fun magazine and it was well worth the effort to see how much Joshua and David enjoyed it. Their excitement about the cake really fed their enthusiasm for the party, which surpassed expectations. The boys were overjoyed to be celebrating with their friends and Joshua played the host especially well, cheering on his pals and leading them to the next activity..."C'mon you guys, let's go play hot potato!!"...and lo and behold, they all followed him, amazingly! So, thanks to Family Fun for the great party ideas! Thanks also to all those who came, especially the Davidsons, who came without their son and acted as the official photographers. The photos below are unofficial, meaning if there is anything wrong with them, it is my doing, not Bill's. Now you may dig in and feast your eyes.

Oh so cute! Great job on this, Maria! Sounds like the party was quite a success.
we were so impressed by the cake!!! it was such a great idea and so sweet to see joshua and david's excitement, as well as all the other boys! we wish so much that william could have been there, but we were so glad we could attend and that we could serve! it was lots of fun! thanks for including us!
maria, this is wonderful! what a great memory you made for your boys!
Wow - that took a lot of work!
I'm glad the boys had fun at their party! :)
Great job on the cake!! Dorothy would LOVE this cake...weird for a girl huh? What can I say - she loves things that "go" and machines of all kinds. Good idea to have an "official" photographer. Last year at D's first b-day it was very hard for me to take pictures and be hostess and mommy at the same time. (Her second b-day is next week!!) Hope to see you soon.
