Yes, it has been a long time. A lot has happened, but still it has been a long time. We have no excuse for letting such a lapse go by without a new JPOD. If anyone is still with us, please understand that Joshua takes more time. The days of plopping him down for a couple minutes to do a quick post are over. He's mobile!

Well, one thing that happened is that Joshua got a new home!

We hope to post more regularly now, but we'll see.

We celebrated Independence Day at Maria's parent's home in NY. Joshua really enjoyed the pool!

At the end of June, Joshua made his first appearance on the Mall.

Our friends Virginia and Charles were visiting from Richmond. We made it to the Museum of Natural History a few weeks before record rainfall caused it to shut down temporarily for flooding.

Also in Minneapolis, Joshua got to meet many of his parents' old friends, a few of whom are pictured below:

The Lewins and the Thompsons are friends from graduate school. Incidentally, each of these families is entering into the world of parenting in 2006.

Jack and Mary Delk counseled Joshua's parents as they prepared for marriage, and Jack officiated their wedding ceremony. Now, the Delks are looking forward to becoming grandparents at the end of this year!

He also enjoyed hanging out with his Great Aunt Ann...

and then the night our Swedish relatives departed, Josh's Aunt Renee moved in...

On the next two weekends, Joshua attended his first weddings, in his "wedding outfit" (as it has now been dubbed):

Joshua, Joshua, where have you been?

"Where hasn't he been and what hasn't he done in the past four weeks" is a better question. Well, we won't tell you all at once.

For starters, Joshua met his fifth and final great-grandparent, Mormor Kajsa, from Sweden.

John Laskowski, of Norfolk, Nebraska, and a long-time friend from Wheaton, demonstrated his narrative abilities with one of Joshua's favorites, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar."

Amid all the hustle and bustle of a fun-filled weekend in Illinois, Joshua did find a solace on Mrs. Laskowski's shoulder.

In Illinois, Joshua enjoyed pulling the hair of some of his first-cousins-once-removed. They didn't seem to mind.

Back to our Illinois recap. Uncle Nathan graduated from WaCoHi (Washington Community High School) during our time in Illinois. Joshua slept through the program, but was to happy to congratulate his uncle afterward. Way to go, Nate!

Illinois part III...

Joshua also had some quality time with his Great-grandpa Kinsinger, for whom he is partially named.

Later, all four generations of Kinsinger men gathered for this historic photo.

Illinois road trip, Part II...

Here we all are on Friday at Uncle Nathan's sectional track meet in Peoria.

Josh entertained himself pretty well.

By the end of the meet, Joshua and Chris were about the only two warm people among us!

Has it really been 3 weeks since we've posted a new picture?

We recently returned from a road trip to Illinois for multiple Kinsinger graduations. On the way out, we spent a night with good friends Josh and Erin Miller near Indianapolis. They have two beautiful daughters, Maggie and Mackenzie, with whom Joshua tremendously enjoyed playing. Here is Joshua marveling at the wealth of toys and small friends before him. Thanks, Millers, for a great visit!

Here is Joshua enjoying a new toy from his Kinsinger grandparents. It's been in the box since Christmas and all of us, especially Josh, were very excited at its unveiling. Thanks, Grandma and Grandpa K!

Joshua is showing early signs of American patriotism. His favorite poem is currently Longfellow's Midnight Ride of Paul Revere. While other books such as Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You and The Very Hungry Caterpillar remain atop Josh's all-around literary favorites, Joshua is no less captivated by the thrilling horseride of Paul Revere. How much longer before the phrase, "The fate of a nation was riding that night," carries a much deeper meaning for this little mind?

Joshua has recently displayed an preference for increasing entropy. No flimsy structures are safe unless they can avoid his flailing arms.

Behold yonder pillar of well-ordered blocks.

I must smite them down!

I love entropy!

And now look who can sit up all by himself! For a little while, anyway...

By the way, please forgive our infrequent posts of late...we're finally in the housing market and thus inundated with home buying concerns all of a sudden! It's exhilarating and exhausting simultaneously.

Yum! Oatmeal! By the way, Dad, here's a helping hand.

Two major milestones were passed in the past 24 hours.

Last night, Joshua had his first taste of oatmeal. He took a couple spoonfuls, but then so passionately expressed his hunger that he received the good old bottle.

During a middle-of-the-night feeding, Joshua refused to go back to sleep. He was wide awake and wanted to play. Shortly after being placed on his stomach, he figured out how to roll over -- with absolutely no help from an outside source! The time was 4:40 a.m. and he rolled to his right, pushing off with his left hand (he appears to be a developing southpaw). Joshua and his daddy immediately roused Mommy to hold a dead-of-night party in celebration of Joshua's big accomplishment. It was a happy time.
