Yesterday we visited Maria's first cousin twice removed-in-law, Seville Lundgren, in southern PA. Joshua warmed right up to her and enjoyed being held by his great-grandmother's cousin! This relationship may sound relatively distant but is in fact very near, when considered in light of the fact that the rest of Maria's maternal relatives, other than her mother, reside in Washington State, Arizona, Idaho, and Sweden. So the fact that we only had to travel an hour to see Seville is quite remarkable!

N.B.-For genealogy enthusiasts, the lineage is that Maria's Swedish grandmother's uncle emigrated to the United States, and one of his sons was Willard Lundgren, who married Seville.

So long, farewell, auf wiedersehn, good night...and adieu to the bassinet.

Joshua loves his new "big boy" crib, complete with a mesmerizing mobile. Sweet dreams!

Joshua has recently developed a taste for books. Here he listens to a reading of his father's first favorite, "The Great Big Fire Engine Book," by Tibor Gergely. The fires, chops, and crashes were a bit intense for Joshua upon his first hearing, but read with less enthusiasm, Joshua thoroughly enjoyed it. However, his favorite book remains, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," as evidenced by his outfit.

SNOW!! Joshua's first real snow came in the form of a 12" dumping that spanned the whole of the Eastern seaboard. While still too small to sled, Joshua did enjoy a walk through this winter wonderland.

Grandpa Al introduced Joshua to model trains. Here he shows off a renovated American Flyer barrel-loading (and unloading) car. Joshua showed significant interest throughout the demonstration.

Joshua ventured the furthest he's yet gone, out of state to the National Gallery in D.C. Here we are before the fountain in the rotunda. It's possible many passersby enjoyed looking at Joshua more than at the paintings!

Girls, Girls, Girls

Sleeping peacefully at a women's brunch.

Would be having the time of his life at a women's brunch if he were awake...

...or would he? He doesn't realize this is probably the only time in his entire life several older women will be hanging all over him! For one thing, the girls' fathers probably won't allow it once they see these pictures.

Roll Patrol: In response to our inquiry, Joshua responded, "Who has time to think about rolling over when you're rolling in beautiful women all day?" Maybe he enjoyed their company more than it appeared.

The Roll Patrol reports that Joshua came within a wiggle of shifting his weight far enough to his right to end up on his back during today's exciting session of tummy time. He had his left arm way up in the air for a while! Stay tuned for future updates from the Roll Patrol.

Joshua went to NIST yesterday to apply for a job funded by the American Competitiveness Initiative. Unfortunately, he failed to meet the education requirements, but his father proudly showed him off to all his coworkers.

Joshua dwarfed his new friend, Jonathan Luis Carbonell, weighing 25% more and measuring 10% longer. Joshua is also thrice Jonathan's age. Today also marked Joshua's 2-month checkup. He displayed fortitude as he endured three immunizations. His parents were proud to hear that some of his physical abilities (holding his head up, reaching for things) were nearly on par for a 4-month-old. He is in good health all around.
