A Good Boy

Here's a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson we've been reading lately:

I woke before the morning, I was happy all the day,
I never said an ugly word, but smiled and stuck to play.

And now at last the sun is going down behind the wood,
And I am very happy, for I know that I've been good.

My bed is waiting cool and fresh, with linen smooth and fair,
And I must be off to sleepsin-by, and not forget my prayer.

I know that, till to-morrow I shall see the sun arise,
No ugly dream shall fright my mind, no ugly sight my eyes.

But slumber hold me tightly till I waken in the dawn,
And hear the thrushes singing in the lilacs round the lawn.

We discovered it in here, a wonderful collection of Stevenson's poetry about childhood combined with some adorable pictures of the same.

The boys

David's world has recently become much more accessible. Discovery is in full swing!

Joshua enjoyed balancing the dogs on the train.

The boys enjoyed interacting with each other in their Chinese hats.

Paragraphs

Joshua continues to expand his vocabulary and sentence complexity. We've lost track of his longest sentence as he's progressed onto paragraphs. The first one that took us by surprise was last week, "Daddy on his way; be home soon. Start supper now." One that we hear often is, "Joshua put shoes on. Buy ticket. Ride passenger train. Go Grandpa's house."

New York

A smattering of pictures from our recent trip to Grandma and Grandpa's house. There are so many more we'd like to post, hopefully we will do so soon! Today we have had an extremely productive Saturday, sort of starting our "fall cleaning." Joshua spent many happy hours in the yard helping mow the lawn and pull weeds, and David spent many happy moments eating the grass before he was discovered. All's well, and our AC is now fixed too! We're counting our blessings and wishing you all a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
